Wedding Bells ring (quietly!) at the Elysee Palace
French president Nicolas Sarkozy, 53, and his Italian girlfried Carla Bruni, 40, were married last Saturday at the Elysee Palace in Paris. According to reports it was a quiet, dignified and private wedding ceremony, lasting just 20 minutes, and with just 20 relatives and close friends in attendance.
Sarkozy has been married twice before and has thress children, but it's a first marriage for Bruni, who has been associated in the past with several well know personalities but never married any of them.
The couple met in October last, just two weeks after Sarkozy's divorce from his previous wife Cecilia Ciganer-Albeniz. The fateful meeting took place at a dinner party and it was apparantly love at first sight.
Elaborate secrecy surrounded not just the wedding but the planning for the event, but it has come as little surprise. The couple are said to be very happy with Bruni reported as saying: "There was nothing whirlwind about our romance. I had simply met the right man and had been lucky enough to recognise him."
Heres to them living happily ever after!
