Fancy tieing the knot in prison?
It's famous as the place where Nelson Mandela spent 18 of his 27 years in jail, but this Valentine's Day Robben Island will be host to a much happier event - or series of events. Twenty-four couples, many of whom have traveled to South Africa specially, will get married in the museum which now stands on the site of the former prison.
It's been an annual event since 2000, and one which has seen more than 130 couple marry there already. The wedding ceremonies are performed by Home Affairs officials, and last year included one same-sex couple availing of the newly passed civil unions law.
Couple will be transported to the island in a special ferry and will be taken on a tour of the former prison, now designated a World Heritage Site, following the ceremonies.
Well, it's certainly different and will make their marriage certificates worthy of hanging framed in pride of place in the years to come.
