Choosing Necklaces, Bracelets & Earrings

One of the biggest mistakes you can make is wearing too much jewellery - resulting in an overly fussy look. A good rule of thumb is to wear just two out of these three pieces.

If your wedding is a less formal beach type wedding, keep it casual with the jewels, what looks terrific in an elegant hotel ballroom will look plain ridiculous on the beach.

Expensive or Bargain Basement?

Getting married is the perfect excuse to splash out on some special pieces that will continue to give you pleasure for years, as well as acting as a tangible reminder of your special day. If you are going to spend a lot, choose jewellry that suits your personal style rather than going overboard on flashy pieces unsuitable for anything but a wedding -  there is morechance that you will get to wear it again after your wedding.

If you believe you never will wear your wedding jewellry again, go for the many ranges of relatively inexpensive jewellry that look great but won't last so long. The selection is large, and even inexpensive jewels will look good for at least a day!

Choosing A Wedding Necklace

You want a necklace that will not just reflect the style of the dress, in particular its neckline, but your personality too, and preferably something you can still wear when the rest of your outfit has been consigned to boxes.

If there is beading on the dress should reflect that in its style too.

Overly fussy necklaces can make your neck look very short, and chokers are really only for those lucky enough to be swanlike. If the dress is very heavily beaded, consider going without a necklace and concentrating on very special earrings instead.

Choosing Wedding Earrings

If you are not wearing a necklace the earrings are especially important. Long drop earrings look best with up-style hair, if you are wearing your hair long for your wedding, stick to studs or short drops.

Again take a look at your neck. If it is short dangly styles can almost seem to rest on the shoulders and make it look even more so - pick something that sits on or just below the earlobe.

Be careful with circular earrings, especially if you have a round face, they can make your face look wide. Remember too that these earrings may be heavier than you are used to, so even if you have pierced ears consider going for a clip-on pair for the day.

Choosing a Wedding Bracelet

Bracelets should probably be kept simple or not worn at all on your wedding day - you don't want to distract to much from that glittering object on your finger!

That said, because of the ring, signing the register and wearing a dress that may have very short sleeves, your arms will be in the limelight more than usual and you do need to choose a bracelet that will flatter.

A small or thin wrist will look good with small delicate jewellry, such as a simple chain of pearls or even a thin bangle. If your arms are not reed-like, a chunkier style will work better. Bold designs work well to balance arms that somewhat heavier, cuff styles which use subtle colour to draw the eye are a great choice here.
