Culture and Romance in Slovenia

Romantic Slovenia

Slovenia's capital, Ljubljana, is an old and very romantic European city, with its cobble stoned squares, willow-lined river walks and a magnificent blend of neoclassical and art nouveau architecture it is a perfect city for leisurely strolls. Cafe society is alive and well here.

In the countryside it's all about the outdoors, from the towering mountains and majestic lakes of the alpine region to the gentle wine lands and wide rivers of the east.

Lifestyle & Culture

Each weekend sees an exodus from cities as people head to the Alps or to the coast to immerse themselves in their favourite activities, which could be anything from lying on a sunny beach to white-water rafting skiing, mountain climbing, snow boarding, rowing or water-skiing.

As a result many shops close at lunchtime on Saturday and don't open again until Monday morning.

The capital, Ljubljana is a modern and thriving city with a great buzz, a young population and growing prosperity. The old town is well preserved and is the centre of the cities night life, while outside that there is rapid development of new commercial and business districts.

Accustomed to shopping in, and influenced by, neighbouring Italy, the people dress fashionably and there are smart stores, restaurants and bars in abundance.

Nightlife

Casinos are legal and popular, not just with tourists but locals also. There are several in all the larger towns.

Young Slovenians are not given to binge drinking and drunkenness on the streets, if seen at all, will almost invariably be a reliable indication that the afflicted are tourists.
