How to Get Married in Slovenia

While Slovenia has not yet become a popular wedding destination, this is sure to change in the near future, and the procedures required for legal civil marriages are quite straightforward.

The most popular destinations within Slovenia include the capital, Ljubljana, the Adriatic coastal town of Piran, Lake Bled (left) in the Julian Alps, Maribor, a gracious renaissance city in the East and the Karst Region, famous for its caves.

Primarily because of the language issue, it is often a good idea to get local help with organising a wedding in Slovenia, however it is also possible to go it alone and organise your own wedding.

Legal Civil Weddings

It is both possible and straightforward for foreign nationals to have a legal Civil marriage in Slovenia.

Church Weddings

Although it is straightforward to arrange a religious ceremony in churches of several religious denominations, such marriages will have no legal recognition and a civil marriage must take place beforehand, either in Slovenia or elsewhere.
