How to Get Married in Scotland
Eloping to Scotland, and to Gretna Green in particular, has long been a popular option - in stories at least!
However while it is straightforward to organise a wedding in Scotland, it is not quite as simple as just hopping on a plane and showing up!
That said, the procedures are not complex, is easy to get to and there are some truly lovely venues where both weddings and receptions can be held.
Legal Civil Weddings
It is possible and easy for foreign nationals to have a legal civil wedding in Scotland.
However if you are going to 'elope', it cannot be a spur of the moment decision as a notice of intent to marry, along with all the required documentation, must be submitted to the registrar at least 15 days before the wedding will take place.

Church Weddings
It is possible to have a legal marriage in a church in Scotland provided the celebrant is authorised to undertake marriages under The Marriage (Scotland) Act 1977), which most are.
Legal weddings can be celebrated in churches of almost all religions and denominations.
