The Republic of Cyprus is an island nation in the eastern Mediterranean Sea, south of Turkey and west of the Syrian coast.
It is the third largest of the Mediterranean Islands, but is still relatively small and easy to get around. There is no rail system, but buses are frequent and comfortable and there are taxis available everywhere.

Climate
The climate is typical of the Mediterranean with hot, dry summers and cool winters.
Religion
Since 1974, Cyprus has been "divided" into the Greek-Cypriot controlled southern two-thirds of the island and the Turkish-Cypriot northern one-third. The northerners are mostly Sunni Muslim, the southerners Greek Orthodox.
