Cooling Things Down in the Heat
Heat can affect wedding guests just as much as the bride and groom, so take a little time before hand to plan ways of ensuring that everyone keeps their cool on the day.
There are small ways you can help people to keep cool during your wedding. If you have a printed order of ceremony, put it on a large sheet so that people can use it as a fan. Better still, present each guest with a pretty paper fan as they arrive.
One thoughtful bride presented a tiny bottle of sunscreen to each guest as they arrived, wrapped in a roll of vellum that opened into a perfect fan.
Drink a LOT
And no, that does not mean hitting the champagne at dawn and carrying on from there!
Heat can quickly lead to dehydration, especially for those used to a less warm climate, so to prevent any fainting fits or blinding headaches make sure there is plenty of bottled water available for both the wedding party and the guests.
Try to arrange for the venue to provide iced or chilled water or if you holding the ceremony away from the buildings - for example on the beach - to have someone bring a cool box filled with bottles of water.
Put the Bride in the Shade!
If the wedding is being held outdoors make sure there are shady places to which the bride and anyone else can retreat, preferably with seating available.
These will be invaluable if the sun becomes a little too much for anyone.
If the wedding will take place in an open area, you can use awnings or huge parasols, not just one for the wedding couple, but several others also for guests to use. A parasol at one side of each table during a reception will allow guests to choose to sit in the shade or the sun as they wish.
You don't have to use parasols - shade can be natural, for example if there are trees in the area think about how you can use them.
Bug Off
If you are in an area where insects can be a problem make sure that the staff at the venue spray the area well before your wedding. Even on a beach spraying for sand flies can be very effective if it is timed well.
In heavily wooded areas, especially in tropical countries, insects can be more than just a nuisance, they can be dangerous. If that is the case consider having some insect repellent available for guests to use.
